Traveling off the beaten track in Nan province (North Thailand) is always fun. I was traveling route 1081 from Bo Klua in direction of Ban Wen, Huai Kon and Phu Phayak. And I saw some signs for "The Origin of the Nan River". Along the road is a parking and a huge sign. From here a small trail goes into the jungle, only about 300m. There is a small kind of spring what is said to be the origin of the Nan River. That said this must be a watershed as the origin of the Wa River is also in the same area. Both rivers make weird twists and the Nan River goed north around the mountains of Manipruek. And the Wa River goes south along the Thai-Lao border area. And at Wiang Sa the 2 meet again. Along the jungle trail you are protected by good spirits. For more information about Nan province see Destination Travel Guide Nan.
