Ban Bo Luang is a small village in Bo Klua district in a valley in the mountains of Doi Phu Kha. This village is famous for its traditional way of producing salt, where saline water from the mountains is pumped from the ground to be boiled in large wok's on wooden fires. Access to salt resource was in the old days an important way of making a living and the salt was sold in Central Thailand and Laos. The name Bo Klua refers to salt as Klua means salt in Thail. Nowadays the Salt Pits (Sin Thao) of Ban Bo Luang have become famous tourist attraction as the Ancient Salt Pits of Bo Klua. In Ban Bo Luang are 2 Salt Pits, both nowadays surrounded by souvenir shops and coffee shops. And Bo Klua district has nowadays many homestay's and boutique resorts.
