Yesterday I did visit a coffee plantation & Coffee Shop in the remote mountains at the border area of Nan province & Phrayao province. It was a bit difficult to get there with the small & sometimes steep roads. But it was worth making the trip. The Coffee Shop is in a small hill-tribe village and managed by a young Thai man. The first Coffee Shop in Thailand that does not sell iced-coffee! In the village you still see older people wearing their traditional cloths. As the village is far into the mountains and there are no other villages nearby you are totally of the communication grid (= no telephone signal).
The Coffee plantation is about 500m walking from the Coffee Shop. And during November to February you can see you how coffee is made. From the Coffee Shop you can make a trip by 4WD pickup truck to visit nearby waterfalls and stay overnight at a home-stay even higher in the mountains. It is a beautiful area with mountains, trees and real local rural life. A great place to experience the real mountain life of Nan province.
