Locally called "Hom Jom" this natural geological occurrence from soil erosion is located about 6 km from Na Noi in Nan province (North Thailand). It is a bit difficult to find as following Thai tradition the signs at the last few km are missing. But worth the extra 6 km side-trip to see this extraordinary and intriguing moon-like landscape of eroded sand pillars and cliffs made by wind & rain. Although it is also said to be made by the sea about 10.000 - 30.000 years ago, I personally would go for wind & rain. Although there is an information center and toilets there is no coffee shop / restaurant or shop. So take your drink and food with you (buy it in Na Noi). The park is about 8 km east of Na Noi town, what is about 70 km south of Nan town.How to get there?
By public transport you could take the bus to Wiang Sa and change for the songtheauw to Na Noi, but then you still have to travel a few km's to Sao Din Na Noi. By private car or motorbike just follow route 101 south of Nan town to Wiang Sa and from there route 2026 to Na Noi, then follow the signs (if you see them) to Sao Din Na Noi. |
