Doi Phu Kha National Park is the longest stretched National Park of Thailand and part of the Luang Prabang mountain range. The highest peak of the park is the Phu Wae (1.980m above sea-level) and can only to be reached by hiking (3 days / 2 nights). The park was established in 1999 and Phu Kha is a reference to an old royal dynasty of Pua. The park is also famous for the Chompoo Phu Kha tree (with pink flowers) that is only to be found in this area. And the so called Ancient Palm Trees that are said not to have evolved since 1000's of years. At the HQ of the park are bungalows and camping ground. Although Doi Phu Kha National Park stretches out over almost all Nan province, the HQ and best place to visit is along route 1256 to Bo Klua. So when you are going to visit Doi Phu Kha National Park it might be a good idea to travel a bit further and also see the Ancient Salt Pits in Bo Klua. Doi Phu Kha National Park is just 25 km from Non Na Pua Homestay in Pua.
Be aware that Doi Phu Kha National Park due to greed is enforcing a dual-price entrance fee and that foreigners (tourists and foreigners living & paying tax in Thailand) are privileged to pay 10 times more (200฿) as Thai people (20฿). Showing a Thai driver license or pink ID card does not help. And yes although most Thai visitors of National Parks in Thailand are driving a nice SUV car they pay 20฿. Lets be honest even 20฿ is too much for a real poor Thai family that makes 200฿ - 300฿ per day. So they almost never go to National Parks or waterfalls were an entrance fee is enforced.
Lan Du Dao & Viewpoint 1715
The viewpoints Lan Du Dao and Viewpoint 1715 are considered to be a part of Doi Phu Kha National Park but there is no entrance fee at all.
