Bangkok, oriental city that doesn’t sleep, as third capital city of Thailand (the first one was Sukhothai and the second one Ayutthaya) is also home of the world famous Grand Palace build in 1782 and for 150 years home of the Royal Thai family and the seat of Thai government. It consists of many buildings and stupa’s and also the Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). Out of respect for Buddha and the Royal Thai family a strict dress code applies when visiting the Grand Palace.
And Bangkok is also home to the Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) probably build around 1788. Of course this temple is famous for the huge Reclining Buddha (sleeping Buddha) but also for its world-wide recognized massage school for Thai massage.

Another must visit temple in Bangkok is the Wat Arun (Temple of rising sun) along the Chao Phraya River. Famous for its 66m high (or 86m) main prang. In the old days you could climb the main prang all the way up, but since some accidents the second floor is the limit to go.
As part of the more modern history Jim Thomson left his house in Bangkok as a museum of Asian art the “Jim Thomson House”. He himself did mysteriously disappear in the High-lands of Malaysia but he left a re-newed world famous Thai silk industry (currently there are still Jim Thomson silk shops).
