Old houses in Lampang

Renovated old Chinese Shophouse in Lampang, North Thailand

In 2016 I was in Lampang and walked in the old town. The house at the photo above I still remember from when I visited Lampang 20 years ago as an almost collapsing old building. Closed for decades. The gossip of the history lovers in town. Rich people who moved to Bangkok and not care about the heritage of Lampang. Well it seems that finally more people are starting to realise that the many old houses in Lampang are the heritage of a beautiful and rich past of Lampang. Some of the beautiful houses have been saved and restored. Unfortunately some are simply destroyed for their wood. At the first photo below if you look good then under her ugly new roof and above her ugly cement poles is a gracious lady with a beautiful history. She is for sale and needs Tender Love and Care.

The second photo below is of a house on the famous Thanon Talat Gao and described as "The most beautiful Gingerbread house of Thailand". The house is called "Maung Ngae Zin's House". Have a look inside in the coffee-shop. They have a nice overview with photos of more beautiful old houses in Lampang. If you like some help with organizing your holiday in Lampang or anywhere in Thailand send me an email at Little Elephant Traveling in Thailand
