No this is not how the children normally walk around in the village and it was also not for me. This was for a special celebration. It is a Hmong village about 30 km north-west of Chiang Khong with stunning view over the valley of Chiang Khong and the Mekong River with Laos on the other side. The older people stay home, take care of the babies and do some work at home like making the beautiful tradional cloths they are still wearing. In the village is a small resort with 5 simple rooms and serving lunch or dinner. If you are interested to visit Chiang Rai or any other place in Northeast or North Thailand, please contact me by email at The Little Elephant Traveling in Thailand.
Update 2022 : It is still a small village but the road to it is now a 4 lane highway and there are new shops along the main road. All roads in the village are now made of cement. The small resort is still there.
