In 2006 we made a 5 days trip to Shanghai, visiting friends who were living there. Shanghai city is a mix of modern Chinese city with high-rise buildings and an old Chinese city with small dirty and noisy streets. Mix that all with a kind of colonial history and you have vibrant city full of live and business. Shanghai is a special part of China, just like Hong Kong and Macau.
