This temple is by most people referred to as Wat Khao Noi but the full name of this temple is Wat Phra That Khao Noi. As the name suggest it is a temple on a small mountain, and mostly famous for its stunning view over Nan valley & town. The said to be 15th century temple houses relics of Lord Buddha at its chedi. Once a year, most times in May, this temple is center of the Phra That Festival. Both the temple itself and the chedi are not spectacular but most people come here to enjoy a stunning sunrise over Nan town or a beautiful sunset over the valley of Nan. The nine meters tall Buddha overlooking Nan town has become a iconic image of Nan province. For more information about Nan province have a look at

When to visit?
The Wat Phra That Khao Noi can be visited all year around, daily from 6:00 - 18:00 and entrance is free.
Location
The Wat Phra That Khao Noi is located just 5 km (south)west of Nan town, too far to go there walking. But you could take a bicycle, private car or motorbike. Just follow route 101 south of Nan town in direction of Na Noi for less 1 km, then turn right at the traffic light (there are signs). Follow the road that at the end will lead up-to Khao Noi. Until the foot of the mountain it is easy to do by bicycle, but going all the way up is only for diehards bicyclists. But a little bit up the foot is a parking from where you can take staircase with Naga's and 300 steps up to the top. Otherwise you can continue to all the way up to top and there is parking behind the temple. Be aware that at some parts the road is a bit steep.
