Know as the "Big Buddha" it is actually a statue of Guanyin, the Chinese goddess of mercy. Said to be 63m high, you can go all the way up and have a look thru her eyes to see the stunning view of Chiang Rai. And next to the statue you see the 9 tired Chinese pagoda Pokchokthama-Chedi. The Wat Huay Pla Kang is located about 8 km north of Chiang Rai town and can be visited daily from 7:00 to 21:30, entrance is free but the elevator to the head of the statue costs 40 baht.
