Travel Tips with Introduction of Thailand

Sunrise in Bangkok

There are many websites where you will find all the standard information about Thailand .... a country in Southeast Asia with a population of about 70 million people. Thailand is bordered by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. The capital city is Bangkok with about 15 million people. The country is a constitutional monarchy and most people in Thailand are Buddhist. If you want to know more I assume Google is your friend.

Since the 19070s Thailand started to become a popular tourist destination, first with backpackers and later with tourists from all kind. From solo travellers to families, from backpackers to beach goers staying in 5 star beach resorts. Yes, Thailand has something to offer everybody.

Why? Well first of all because of its geographical diversity. Green mountains in the north, rice fields in the North-East, islands with stunning beaches in the south. And secondly because of its cultural diversity and welcoming nature of Thai people. The famous Thai smile, Chinese minorities in the mountains, farmers on the rice fields, Malay and Indian in the south. And of course because of the famous Thai delicious food from a Phad Thai to a Som Tam, from a Massaman to fresh seafood.

And other good reason to travel in Thailand is that Bangkok is an international hub of direct flights from all over the world. And once in Thailand transport is relatively good and safe with domestic flights all over  Thailand, a rail-road network over all Thailand and a highway network over all Thailand.

To make your choice in traveling within Thailand you lets start with some basic facts. Thailand has 5 regions : Central, North, Northeast (Isaan), East and South. Where the borders are between these regions depends on who you ask. Personally I consider the border between Central and South to be much higher. And the South should actually be divided in Southwest Coast and Southeast Coast.

Travel-wise 90% of the people travel to 10% of Thailand. The most populair places to go in Thailand are Bangkok, Hua Hin & Cha Am, Pattaya, Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Kanchanaburi, Chiang Mai, Pai, Chiang Rai, Koh Samui, Khao Sok, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Chang, Koh Phi Phi and Khao Lak. Of you see Northeast Thailand (Isaan) does not even make to the top-20. Either does the real South of Thailand.
