In 2022 I was traveling along the Mekong River in North Thailand and I did stay overnight in Chiang Khong, the gateway to Laos. When staying in Chiang Khong I always want to stay in town and right along the Mekong River. So this time I did choose to stay at Day Waterfront Hotel, a bit older hotel but cheap hotel and rooms with a balcony overlooking the Mekong River. And staff and owners are friendly welcoming you to their place. They have standard rooms for 2 persons (double or twin) and they have family rooms for 4 people.
Of course all rooms have air-conditioning, fridge, TV and private bathroom with hot-water (shower only). The hotel has private parking and offers free bicycles to explore Chiang Khong town. In the morning they serve a simple breakfast. Room prices are between 700 and 1.200 baht incl. breakfast. The owners are living at the hotel and are very service minded and do speak very well English. You can book tours here and they can help you crossing the border to Laos.
