Train Stations in Thailand, next station Don Muang

Long distance trains at Don Muang Station in Bangkok, Thailand

Begin February 2023 I was traveling to Bangkok and from Don Muang Airport I took the Red Line to downtown Bangkok. And to my surprise I saw that now the long distance train-line is also operational at the Don Muang Station. So the top level is for the Red Line platforms and the middle level is for the long distance North and Northeast train lines.

And I find the above photo wonderful, a old diesel train making its stop in this brand new modern train station. Yes, This Is Thailand! And luckily this is an open-air station, so no problem with the diesel smog.

So yes you can take the long distance trains from Don Muang Station to Chiang Mai, Nong Khai or Ubon Ratchathani. I assume that you can also take the train to Krungthep Aphiwat Central Terminal, formerly called Bang Sue Grand Station. Be aware that long distance trains to the south (Surat Thani & Hat Yai) are not passing Don Muang Station. Following are some photos to explain the use of the train station at Don Muang Station. I love traveling by train, especially in Thailand where it is like traveling in time. It is like an open-air museum. Not only the trains itself but especially the train stations. They look like they have not changed since they build the first railroad lines in Thailand in 1889. I made a serie of train stations under the tag TRAIN STATIONS. Let's visit them before they will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

This travelogue follows my traveling in Thailand (and beyond) with in between information that might help you when traveling in Thailand. If you are interested to visit Thailand and need some information or help then feel free to contact me by email at The Little Elephant Traveling in Thailand.
