Street Food is ready to eat (or ad-hoc made) food or drink sold on the street or other public area's like food courts. And just like in many countries also in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam or Malaysia food is a important part of the culture. If you do not take part in eating the local food you are missing a part of the local culture. And eating Street Food can be a great experience! And it is cheap.
That all said, choose your Street Food wisely! Not all Street Food is hygienic or not your kind of thing to eat (remember most Thai people eat almost everything). Choose Street Food that is ad-hoc made for you and choose a food stall where many people eat. And choose a food stall that has access to tap-water to clean the dishes you are eating from.
Be aware that also Thai people sometimes get sick from eating street food and that getting sick while you are on a short-term holiday might ruin your holiday. A good alternative are the Food Courts in shopping mall. It is also Street Food but most times hygienic made and with access to clean tap-water.
