Check! Staying at Sakad Dee Homestay in Ban Sakad

Destination Travel Guide Nan by Traveling 2 Thailand

Ban Sakad is a hill-tribe village at about 1000m high in the mountains of Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan province. Just 20 km from Pua town. But a steep ride over a small but good road. Well mostly good, but during the last raining season there were 2 big landslides along the one and only road to the village. The village is famous for it's tea leaves production, that is not only used to make tea but also to make small balls to chew on. When I did visit this village about 2 years ago I thought "Wow stunning village and a stunning location". And also "Great place for a homestay", but I was told by locals that the village is actually part of Doi Phu Kha National Park so no homestay's. But for some reason that seems to have changed and now there are 2 homestay's in this lovely village. So we did stay one night at "Sakad Dee Homestay". A very basic accommodation that includes dinner & breakfast. The homestay owner also organises tours like a Walking Tour in the village (by a young student from the village), a jungle hiking tour (even possible with overnight in the jungle), a tour to see the coffee & tea production. We had a great stay here, a great place to go off the beaten track. For more information about Nan province see Destination Travel Guide Nan.

Sakad Dee Homestay offers very basic accommodation, but you do not come here for the accommodation itself. It is all about a local experience at a stunning location. Sakaddee Homestay has 1 room with private bathroom with shower and 1 private room with shared bathroom. And there is a wooden house where max. 5 people can sleep. The shared bathroom is also in this house. Staying here comes with a locale made delicious Northern Thai dinner & breakfast. The owners of Sakaddee Homestay will welcome you at their place and introduce you to their way of life here in the mountains. They also organise small tours in and around the village, like a walking tour in the village or visiting the tea & coffee plantation.

Be aware that the village is build on the steep mountains and that the homestay is only accessible by walking a small and steep trail of steps (about 100m). Be also aware that the rooms are very basic. There is no public transport to the village, so you will have to be with your own transport or arrange an Songtheauw from Pua. The latter can be arranged by the homestay.

Be aware that this review was made in 2019, but the homestay is still up & running. Rooms & prices might have been changed.
