In March 2022 we did travel again to our beloved Hat Chao Lao beach in Chanthaburi to escape the burning season of North Thailand. As I wanted to stay really beachfront this time we stayed a few days at Pooma Resort, a pet friendly hotel. When choosing Pooma Resort be aware that Pooma Resort is big and has 4 different zone's and only Zone A is at the beachfront. Here are 24 new bungalows but only 10 are really directly at the beach, within 5m from the beach and the balcony facing the beach. The other 14 rooms are behind the first row and facing the parking.
The rooms are basic but with TV, private bathroom with shower only, air-conditioning, fridge, free drinking water, free wifi and a small balcony. In front of the rooms are big tables where you can sit to eat & drink. The hotel can even provide a BBQ so you can make your own diner party. Yes it is typically family style the Thai way! Not all rooms are the same, some rooms are for 2 people and some are for 8 people! But it is great in the morning to walk just 5m and to be on the beach. I enjoyed it very much and our dog also loved to run on the beach.
But the rooms are actually not cheap with weekdays at 1.800 baht and in the weekend at 2.500 baht. The latter is the reason why we did stay only 3 days and in the weekend we did stay in another much cheaper hotel. Mind you the rooms are basic, there is no swimming pool at Zone A, no restaurant, no landscaped garden. Still a great place to stay, especially if you are traveling with a dog or cat.
