In July 2022 when riding back from Phayao to Pua in Nan province I made a bodily refueling stop at
Phu Langkha almost on the border of Phayao province and Nan province. The famous part is where route 1148 goes for about 500m over a mountain ridge and looking in direction of Nan province you have a stunning vista over a valley with karsten mountains. In the valley is a river and a lake and partly due to this the valley is in the cool season famous for a sunrise over a sea of clouds. I think the first time that I was here must have been about 6 or 7 years ago when there was only 1 coffee shop and 1 resort. And while sitting at the first and original coffee shop
Route 1148 Cafe I was thinking about how the coffee shop and the all area has changed. Originally the cafe was a part of kind of house and there were 3 tables with chairs. That kind of house was also a homestay / guesthouse. And there was always an old lady dressed in tradional Mien costume walking around with young child. Now there is a professional coffee shop with 10 tables, toilets and a camping ground for 10 tents. The old lady is not sitting at a little shop along the road selling souvenirs. And nearby are now there are about 5 coffee shops and 6 resorts / guesthouse / camping. And 2 or 3 restaurants. And a bit before this area are now also 3 or 4 other coffee shops & resorts. Mind you, just after the curve is behind the road a village of about 50 houses, but you not really see that from the road. Route 1148 is of course motorbike riding heaven and you will see many motorbike riders making a stop here and the wall of the coffee shop is full with stickers of motorbike groups.
