I did take the train from Bangkok to
Mae Klong (Talad Rom Hub) and this train ride goes in 2 parts. First from Wong Yai to Maha Chai and then from Ban Leam to Mae Klong. I love traveling by train, especially in Thailand where it is like traveling in time. It is like an open-air museum. Not only the trains itself but also the train stations. They look like they have not changed since they build the first railroad lines in Thailand in 1889. This is about the second part from Ban Leam station to Mae Klong station. Also this railroad was originally build as private cargo line to transport sea products like seafood and salt to Bangkok. And also this railroad is mostly used by locals. This line is not connected to any other railroad lines.
Be aware that it is a slow train ride that will take you again about 1 hour. While traveling from Ban Leam to Mae Klong you are passing the famous salt fields of Samut Songkram province. Along the railroad are a few small trains stations and at one of them is along the salt fields also a a coffee shop annex restaurant. And here the train was filled with a big group western tourists with a tour guide. The main attraction of Mae Klong is the Talad Rom Hub or Railway Market that is more or less build on the railroad and is removed every time the train goes by. Click on the label
Train Market to see all postings about going to the famous train market.
