I did go the old fashioned way from Bangkok to the famous train market. And that starts at Wong Yai train station in Bangkok. I love traveling by train, especially in Thailand where it is like traveling in time. It is like an open-air museum. Not only the trains itself but also the train stations. They look like they have not changed since they build the first railroad lines in Thailand in 1889. Click on the label Train Market to see all postings about going to the famous train market.
This is about the first part taking the train from Wong Yai train station to Maha Chai train station. This line is not connected to any other railroad lines. It was once constructed as private cargo line to transport sea products to Bangkok. At Maha Chai you have to cross the river by ferry and take the next train.
Train ticket 3rd class (open windows) was 10 baht! And for that money you have 1 hour of train fun! And the funny thing is at Maha Chai train station is just like at Mae Klong train station a market right along the railroad! But no tourists here! Actually the area of Maha Chai train station is very nice and worth to spend some time at the market and along the river. Following are some photos I took, click on the photo to enlarge.
