If you love local markets then the
Thai-Lao border market at Huai Kon is a great market to visit. But you will have to be early there and it is about 140km north of Nan town. It is even 80km from
Non Na Pua Boutique Homestay in Pua. But it is a beautiful scenic route to go there and you could extend this route to Phu Phayak, Ban Sapan and Bo Klua as loop back to Pua.
This border market is every Saturday and Thai are selling modern utilities to the Lao p[eople and the Lao are selling herbs, food and some handicrafts to Thai people. A colourful market to visit. We arrived at about 7:00am when the market was already busy. But as the border opens at 8:00am there are even more Lao people coming between 8:00 and 9:00.
